Report Of The Lower Niger Congress Conference As Presented ENC Delegates

By Uwagboe Ogieva
28th April 2015
With the publication report that Leaders of Lower Nigeria states, made up of South East and South South region meeting in Port Harcourt, published online April 21, 2015 to decide whether they would opt out or continue to be part of Nigeria, a three man delegate were send to represent the Edo people and Nation at the conference sponsored by Edo National Congress (ENC). This include Mr Jeffrey Odigie, Omorogieva Augustine Osarodion and Mr Edherue Anthony.
The Edoid group at the conference in Port Harcourt presented a paper detailing the position of Edo Nation in the call for the re-structure of the of the lugardian Nigeria. You can get the full details of the speech/ paper on line. — via Lower Niger Congress: South-east, South-south Groups Demand Self-determination, Articles | THISDAY LIVE. thisdaylive.com, Edo National Congress (ENC) website www.edonationalcongress.com andwww.edonationsatelite.blogspot.com . http://edonationsatelite.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/speech-delivered-b...
Lower Niger congress at the delebration of the conference sought and obtain the mandate to:
1, Adopt the map of 1895.
2, Production of a Chater
3, Referendum
4. Consultation - Town halls and International Community
5, Mandate to set up all purpose committee.
Mr Jeffrey Odigie, leader of the team expressed displeasure over neglect of Edo people in the body politics of Nigeria. He noted that if not for the effort of ENC, the Edoid voice was silent and conspicuosly absent with Edo people interest unduely relegated to abyss.
"It was my polite registration of displeasure to the Masters of ceremony Actress Hilda Dokubo that mentioning names and tribes of the region and they have forgotten us in the Edoid land despite the fact that we were included/ part of the map they want to adopt. This attempt and neglligent error is very important to us. " - he said.
This was promptly corrected or augumented for when the moderator took the mic again. The ENC representation were given their place of position and a time for presentation. "I am glad to tell you all that soon after we made them realise this anormally we became like a bride in the eyes of the Organizers" - he said.
Mr Jeffrey Odigie urge Edoid people of the defunct Bendel state to rise up and make their voice loud and clear per issues concerning their collective survival in the failed state called Nigeria.
He implored that despite the success of the conference Edo people and Nation must not go to sleep yet because they are far behind in the scheme of things. They should rather raise their voice more and up their game otherwise they run a very big risk of anexation again by the igbo/ijaw alliance which will make their fate being determined by others always wether as in the old Lugardian system or in the future SS/Lower Niger group.
In closing remark, Mr Edherue Anthony, the media assistance to the ENC organization express thanks to the Edo National Congress for making it possible the Ediod voice including Isoko people at the ceremony. He also said Edoid people must organise themselves and communities for a larger participations in subsiquent encounters. “We are at the stage of going to organise town hall meetings, roll up our sleeves to mobolise our people for the coming referadum” - He said

Part of the speech delivered by Lower Niger Congress

THE LOWER NIGER CONGRESS SOLEMN ASSEMBLY OF THE PEOPLES OF THE LOWER NIGER In a solemn assembly of the peoples of the lower Niger, held at the Atlantic Hall of the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt
, today 27th April, 2015 note and resolved as follows:

1. That we the peoples of the Lower Niger region are disenchanted with the constitution of the present day Nigeria and have therefore decided through a soul search to go back to our union as it were in 1885. The congress therefore adopted the map of 1885 by voice vote.

2. The assembly mandated the putting together of a chatter defining the relationship between the ethnic blocks within the lower Niger which may be the basis of the federating constitution for the ethnic nationalities of the territory.

3. The assembly mandated the conduct of a referendum of the lower Niger as with the case in Scotland. Whether we want to continue living together in the geographic expression called Nigeria.

4. The assembly called for a referendum for the determination of how we want to relate with one another.

5. In order to forestall the loss of the properties of the peoples of the lower Niger as was the case in 1970 the Assembly mandated the setting up of an Asset Protection and Guarantee Scheme to protect the Assets and Interests of the peoples of the lower Niger

6. The Assembly mandated the setting up of an all-purpose committee

7. The Assembly encouraged the convening of the Town Hall Meeting for the greater mobilization and sensitization of our peoples at all levels of the territory. And that all elected officials from the territory be recalled for consultation before returning to Abuja.
