With no change in the status of the traditional houses from their harrowing days under the yoke of colonial rule, the royal houses were forced to seek legitimacy - and secure their position and viability - in the acquisition of public office - by Royals - by way of election. It was one such crisis - the candidacy of the son of HRH Aderemi as a candidate for the Federal House of Assembly under the auspices of the Action Group - that precipitated the "Wettie Crisis" in our history. We again came to the brink in the government proposed candidacy for political office of HRH Nekpen Irediauwa as Oredo Local Government Chair. >My remarks: Mr. Oshiomhole has proposed - in your candidacy - an act of devilish schadenfreude, he has set you up the same way that colonial Britain set up your grandfather Agho Obaseki in a no win situation, pitting "brother against brother", you vs Robin. >
Where he failed in the attempt to utilize HRH Nekpen Erediauwa as his straw man, he hopes to succeed with you; you're in a no-win situation due to factors beyond your control conspiring to create a massive cloud of darkness over you.
Take a stroll around the perimeter of the lavish grounds of the government house he wants you to occupy; review the satellite map of the facility (attached herein), who's embarrassing growth led to the renaming of streets: 3rd Avenue becoming Osadebey Avenue, to mask the disappearance of 2nd avenue under the weight of its ever expanding "footprint".
This vast compound represents the bounty accruing to the new "Government Warrant Chiefs", that not only do they live more lavishly than the people, it is laid bare for the people to see what is the nexus of power and prominence in their town as they live far more lavishly than the local Regent; like I said: "a no win situation for you".
There is one way out, and this should have been HRH Aderemi's tack, the return of land, and the repeal of the Land Use Act. There's plenty of room - in town - for both a government and a viable constitutional - fiscally independent - monarchy and the repeal of Land Use Act will provide that. Attached please find an excerpt from Dr. Aisien's "Benin Pilgrimage Stations"; it tells how the land under the property you hope to occupy in "government house" on 3rd avenue (fraudulently renamed "Osadebey Avenue" to mask the illegal land grab) was acquired. Call it by "fiat", call it arm twisting, just don't call it a "gift".
Lastly I would like to bring your attention to a press release that came out of "Government House" today purporting to confer legitimacy by way of a letter of "appointment" from the government, on a yet to be named Oba, who had not completed the series of acts to see him even named. The release was made by a paid government functionary - Mr. Victor Oshioke - who has taken previous pleasure in pointing out truisms - unique to himself - that girls from Benin are harlots overseas and young men from same: all scam artists. Thus I relate the deliberate ploy that your candidature presents unless you can become Hercules, or at the very least any Prime Minister of Britain who - on becoming PM elect - goes to the Queen/King to request permission to form a government.
Yours,>Reggie Akpata
(Grandson of the Obamwonyi of Benin)
