ELDERS, MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN KNEW THEIR RESPONSIBILTY AND DUTIES AS TO SOCIETAL ORDER AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. NO KIDNAPPING, NO ARMED ROBBERY, NO PROSTITUTIONAL HUBS, NO POLITICAL ASSASINATION AND MASSIVE LEADERSHIP CORRUPTION, NO MASS EXODUS OF EDOID RACE THROUGH THE DESERT AND MEDITERENIAL SEA TO EUROPE. FAMILIES AND CLANS KNEW THEIR BOUNDARIES. MAIN EDOID LINEAGE WERE HAVING SPECIAL GREETINGS THAT IDENTIFY THEIR PLACE AND POSITION LIKE IN A CIVILIZE SOCIETY. THE RAFIOSA ANORLD II TALE OF THE EDO PEOPLE

To consider the issues of the development of Edo State is dependent on our ability to understand what other people understood in time past, often at time we have continually to advocate for the development of our state in all ramification whether in infrastructure or human capital but we need to first consider some very vital issues before we can begin to rise again. The purpose of this write up is to holistically analyze how we have gotten to this sorry state and provide practical solutions to our modern debacle and not to cast down other tribes.
TRIBAL SENTIMENTS:
The world are trying to move away from tribal sentiments so that our global perspective can be broadly synchronize to entertain merit rather than sheer sentiments but in Nigeria it’s the reverse the more tribal sentiments the more transverse development a case of what I discovered in Yoruba Land, the Igbo are tending and preaching towards that direction now because they have realized how well it works for South-Western part of Nigeria. The Nigeria country has not gotten to a stage were there cannot be tribal sentiments, so the Edos must take a cue from others, we must forget the ways of our forefathers who in the ancient times treated other tribes as theirs or even more, a case that is very visible in modern Benin who sees is fellow Benin as enemy. One of the reason I see it difficult to attend Churches headed by Yoruba people, likewise Ibo Churches, and Hausa/Fulani Mosques is because their organogram is centered on their tribe even in the house of God (no vendetta just personal choice) are there no fire brand pastors in Edo owned churches anymore? The Bible said be as wise as the serpent, to others this things doesn’t matter but take a close look at all institutions headed by this people they will want their fellow tribal people to follow, so what is stopping us from doing the same. For example I will a million times prefer to buy Imose phone owned by an Edo person than buy Tecno phone owned by another Nigerian that is not a wrong mentality it is an act of appreciating your brother’s effort, after all Chinua Achebe said “I’m first an Igbo man before a Nigerian”. Let’s put our people first before others so that we can avoid future disaster. Always remember you are an Edo first before a Nigerian.
EDO SWEET HOME:
The best place to invest in is your home, failure to realize that is a futuristic disaster, there are tendencies to make investments outside ones home because you have to consider so many factors beforehand but it doesn’t deter you from building it around your people, in my last article relating to ijaw crises I was able to prove how far the Edo people have grown so much in Education, so we now possess a lot of intellectual properties who practicably are more employable in comparisons to other graduates of other tribes. In 2003 it was rated that 35% of the rich people in the most expensive part of Lagos are Edo people, to buttress that point I can practically count 21 billionaires from Edo State alone which was gathered during the research I carried out sometime ago of the 21 billionaires that I am aware of 5 of them came from the same family, this guys are unarguably one of the richest family in Nigeria (Non-politicians). These Edo billionaires can comfortably employ over 40,000 thousand Edo indigenes but has I speak less than 6,000 of Edo indigenes work with this guys and I wonder how this same people want Edo to be developed, charity begins at home. According to the statistics from Federal ministry of foreign affairs in 2015 the amount of money state by state realized from Nigerians in diaspora, Edo State came out second only bested by Lagos State. We should start doing the needful of helping ourselves so that we can make Edo Nation a better place.
DIVIDED EDO:
This is one of the greatest problem Edo people are currently facing, one of the reason is based on British Invasion of Edo land via Benin Kingdom and cheap political points. When the British invaded Benin the first thing they did was to reduce the power of Oba and reduced it to the present Seven Local Governments Area that makes Edo South and some of our political brother who became privileged at the federal level decided to fight the Benins for no just cause it baffles us even when we have always treated Afemai and Esans as our Siblings, it later dawned on us that it wasn’t supposed to be so, we started fighting back notably Esans but of a truth I later realized that most of the Esans fighting Benin people politically are all ignorant of our history. We are always brothers and sisters no matter what politics have done to separate us will fail someday because “the history that we have all shared together through our common ancestry will at all times prevail over the effervescent political mist”. When we all realize that out of the Benin Nation came forth the Edo Nation, there will never be a problem, we will then move past; it is the time for Benins or Esans or Afemai to be Governor or other political position it will rather be based on, amongst all candidates who is more credible and qualified. While we grow through unity it shoves us from the tribal sentiments of all other tribes that are not Edoid. It give us understanding of so much injustice done to us even in our State where other tribes head positions that our Sons and Daughters are qualified for. Disunity has cost us so much in Edo State. Be wise Edo People.
LANGUAGE:
During the great expansion of Benin Empire in the 14th century we were only interested in Leadership positions and not imposition of our language (with all due respect to our great ancestors that was foolishness of the highest order) that’s why we are minorities in the present geographical location called Nigeria. During the expansion of white colonialists most especially the Britain they forcefully imposed their language and religion on their conquered colonies and after sometime they granted freedom to their colonies but by then the deed has already been done (they simply understood power of language). They can always lay claim to all this people because of their visibility of their spoken language in this countries conquered by them, unlike the Benins who conquered many provinces which are now kingdoms or states but we can no longer claim to those areas because of differences in our language. We have always lack patriotism towards our language even as far back as 15th century when Oba Esigie wholeheartedly embraced Portuguese language and even our princes were taught in foreign language, no wonder Benins prefer to speak English, Yoruba etc. than their language. We must start changing our mentality towards our language by making conscious effort in speaking and teaching our children as well. The only way the Edo people can ever be united is through one universal language called “Benin” (is the source of other Edoids) where other Edoids languages can be called dialects, if not language nothing else can unite us perfectly even with our shared common ancestry we still fight ourselves that’s because we don’t see ourselves as one. Language is the key; Edo people.
CULTURE:
We must promote our culture at all times through our mode of dressing, it is shameful to see Edo people promoting the cultures of other tribes by dressing in their style and we think our culture can grow with that mentality. Most times we think wearing the adorable beads and Edo dress is only for marriages and burials (that’s occasionally) that’s a monumental failure on our part to bear such lackluster sense of cultural patriotism. We must at all times begin to model our traditional and cultural dressing so the world can appreciate the rich cultural heritage possessed by the Edos.
In conclusion, we must learn to trust ourselves and brush our minds from what other tribes says about us, that we are barbaric (that’s because they envy us), that our girls are prostitutes (let them tell us of any tribe without bad names) etc. We must learn to trust ourselves, defend our tribe, love ourselves and above all be united against other people who will not rest until they ensure Edo goes into extinction. Our empire was envied by all, they built it with hard work and not laziness, they sacrificed their lives for our freedom we must do the same for our future Edo generations, we are one of the most successful Nigerians, one of the richest, one of the most educated, what else is bad about us that our excellence hasn’t covered. When people simply ask me where are you from I always smile when I say I’m from the land of the cradle of black civilization.
SINCE THE CREATION OF NIGERIA LATER INHERITED BY YORUBA VS HAUSA/FULANIS OPPORTUNIST, WHO HAVE TAKEN EVERY CHANCE THEY GET TO DEMONIZE, MARGINALIZAL, BLACKMAIL EDO PEOPLE AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY THEY GET, EDO LIFE EXPECTANCY HAVE DECLINED TO 45 YEARS OF AGE. BENIN KINGDOM TERRITORY HAVE CONTINUALLY BE ENCROACHED, OUR WOMEN RAPED AND YOUNG GIRLS DECIEVED INTO UNWANTED PREGNACY, FOREIGNERS HAVE TURNED OUR SOCIETIES INTO KIDNAPPING DEN, NO MORE REPECT FOR EDO CUSTODIAN, TRADITION AND CULTURE, EDO LANGUAGE HAVE BEEN DISCOURAGE FOR EXINCTION, EDO YOUTH HAVE CONTINUALY BEING REDUCE TO CULTISM, HUGE UNEMPLOYMENT WITH OTHERS DRIVING TO RISKING THEIR LIFES ON A SUCIDE JOURNEY THROUGH THE DESERT TO EUROPE. FOR MORE THAN 57 YEARS, OF THE SO CALL INDEPENDENCE OF NIGERIA, THERE IS STILL NO HOPE FOR THE AVERAGE EDO YOUTH ASPIRING TO BE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA. NIGERIA HAVE FAILED EDO PEOPLE AND WE NOW DECIDE TO TAKE BACK OUR MANDATE TO RE-BUILD OUR SOCIETIES AND PEOPLE. GREAT BENIN KINGDOM WAS WHERE BRITAIN AND NIGERIA MEET EDO AND MUST LEAVE EDO WHERE SHE BELONG. ITS EDO CIVIC RIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO STAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHT TO IMPROVING THEMSELVES AND THEIR SOCIETIES. EDO NATION - BENIN KINGDOM SOVEREIGN EDO RIGHT TO LIVE. THIS ABORIGINAL PEOPLE OF GREAT BENIN KINGDOM (APOGBK) HAVE COME TO APPROACH PEACEFULLY AND LEGALLY THROUGH A REFERENDUM TO DEFINE THEIR DESTINY ON THE FAILED STATE CALLED NIGERIA.
